About Simon Tembo

I have over 30 years of work experience; 16 years in Corporate Management in the ICT/Telecommunications Industry and 14 years as an Academician, teaching Computer Networks, Cyber Security, ICT Policy, Regulations, and Management, ICTs, Engineering Management, Network Security, and Telecommunications Engineering. I served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Managing Director of Zambia Telecommunications Company Limited (ZAMTEL). I served as interim Board Chairperson for Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Telecommunications Limited (COMTEL); I am the current Chairperson of the Zambia Grid Code Technical Committee for the Zambian Power Sector; and previously served as the Institution’s Vice Chairperson of the Committee; I served as inaugural committee member on the NEPAD Agency`s African Center of Excellence for Infrastructure Regulation (ACEIR) in Energy, Telecom, Transport and Water Infrastructure. In my 16 years as a corporate Executive and Senior Manager, I have gained expertise to plan, direct, manage, control, and implement set corporate, business and operational strategies through provision of leadership, direction and supervision to Executive Management and Senior Managers to ensure company’s mission, vision and objectives to provide effective, competitive and profitable telecommunications services country-wide were achieved in accordance to set business goals and targets; and I have expertise to develop and maintain effective strategic relationships with key stakeholders such as the Government, Financial Institutions, customers and partners, Regulating agencies, Competitors, Suppliers, Contractors and Cooperating partners. In my 14 years as an Academician with the School of Engineering (UNZA), besides being a Senior Lecturer, I have served as Head of Department, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering a position I am currently serving, Assistant Dean in Charge of Postgraduate; an Assistant Dean – Technical. I hold a Dr. Eng. Degree in Electrical, Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering from Akita University, Japan; a Master of Engineering Degree in Information and Network Science from University of Electro-Communications in Japan: and a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Zambia. I am a Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia; Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; and a Registered Practicing Engineer with Engineers Registration Board of Zambia.
