About Simon Tomlinson

Although young in service I have already proven myself as a highly motivated and dependable Police Officer. My greatest career achievement to date is passing the NPPF exam after an intense study period. This has considerably expanded my legal knowledge and means that I am now qualified to move to the next stage of the Police Sergeant promotion process. I already have over 6 months experience as an acting and temporary Sergeant leading teams on the ground at 2 different policing posts and I am looking forward to further progression opportunities. I started my policing career based at London Victoria which has the highest crime rate of any railway station in the country. With over passengers passing through daily this was an incredibly busy police post and a fantastic place to learn my trade. During my first 2 years of policing I dealt with a diverse range of calls to service from serious violence to child protection and almost everything in between. I look back fondly on some of the weird and wonderful things I came across and how much I learned in such a short space of time. I thrive on having the responsibility to make fast yet methodical decisions to be able to deal with each situation effectively and knowing that I made the right choice keeps me coming back each shift. Keen to broaden my horizons even further in May 2019 I was accepted to join a newly formed specialist unit which is run in partnership with Network Rail. I am now a part of a small team with the aim of reducing crime and police related rail disruption across the whole of the South East Network. The freedom and huge geographical area that comes with this role means that I have learned a whole new style of policing. When not responding to on track emergencies I actively seek out ongoing issues and come up with ways the team and I can intervene and prevent further disruption. Some of my work includes identifying and arresting arsonists and planning and executing covert graffiti operations.
