Background
About Simona Bisiani
I am a PhD student at the Institute for People-Centred AI, University of Surrey, with expertise in journalism, which I study through quantitative research methods and computational analysis techniques. My passion for researching journalism stems from its pervasive influence, its fundamental role in distributing information, and its precariousness in an era of decentralised, peer-to-peer, and algorithmically shaped communication networks. Operating at the intersection of journalism and big data, I focus on developing advanced methods and scalable pipelines to evaluate the local news sector at scale. My research combines digital data collection, text mining, machine learning, and interactions with large language models (LLMs) to analyse media trends, content diversity, and journalistic sustainability. In addition to my research, I have experience as an educator in people-centred AI, focusing on its adoption across various industries and fostering a critical understanding of both its transformative potential and the challenges it presents.
