About Simone Bregni

As of July 1st, 2022, I serve as Director of the Spring Hill College Italy Center in Bologna, Italy. I am thrilled to join a fantastic team of colleagues (administrators, coordinators, and faculty), and provide meaningful intercultural and social justice-oriented experiences to Spring Hill College students, as well as students from other Jesuit colleges and universities in this beautiful city and its nation. We are open to expand new partnerships. As the program director, I aim to provide the highest quality in Study Abroad education. The Spring Hill College Italy Center in Bologna, as I have first said since 2012 as the coordinator of a partner program is "everything that a Study Abroad program in Italy should be". Twenty-eight years of teaching & leadership experience at the university level. My areas of specialization are Medieval & Renaissance Italian literature and foreign (F/L2) language acquisition, in particular video game-based learning (VGBL) in F/L2. In F16, as a recipient of the SLU Reinert Center for Innovative Teaching, I developed Intensive Italian for Gamers. The course was successfully taught in the SLU state-of-the-art Learning Studio in S17,'19,'20,'21 and '22. I presented my research and results in workshops and presentations, at conferences and in publications (in print and forthcoming) internationally. I have an extensive and eclectic background in Classics (Greek and Latin, Philology, Literature), Ancient and Medieval History, Theology, Philosophy; but also in Cinema Studies, International Studies, Communications and Journalism. I definitely enjoyed the variety of my studies. I am a firm believer in multidisciplinary approaches to both learning and teaching (i.e. neurolinguistics in F/L2) My personal blog about VGBL is simonebregni.com I have a passion for gaming. I was a freelance writer, game historian & foreign correspondent for the leading Italian video game magazine Super Console I have excellent communication skills and I believe in student-centered education, and educating the whole person. I enjoyed learning, and I love to share the joy of learning. My research interests include Dante and Catharism, alterity in Renaissance Theater, and CALL in F/L2. I am very passionate about what I do, and I do believe one should pursue his/her passions in order to be happy. I am fluent in French and I can communicate in Spanish. Well-versed in Latin and Ancient Greek.
