About Simone Bursich

I was born more than 35 years ago on Rome’s historic Insula Tiberina, where ancient stories and modern life flow together like the Tiber itself. I graduated in Aerospace Engineering from Sapienza University in Rome, with a dissertation in "Blading parts of a jet engine: materials, manufacturing and maintenance". I won the scholarship "Aero MSc Bursary Award" for the year 2014-2015 by the Royal Academy of Engineering. Then, I took in the UK a Master’s degree in Advanced Materials at “Cranfield University”. In 2024, I obtained my industrial PhD on the topic, “The Effect of Ceramic YSZ Powder Morphology on Coating Performance for Industrial TBCs.” The study aimed to investigate how the morphology and chemical composition of YSZ powder influence the mechanical, thermo-mechanical, and corrosion resistance of ceramic Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs), particularly in response to the increasing turbine inlet temperatures in modern gas turbines. Throughout my academic career, I have developed expertise in aeronautical engineering, materials science, and technology, with a focus on aeronautical and IGT turbines, surface engineering, and advanced materials such as steels, titanium alloys, and superalloys. I aspire to address professional challenges by utilizing my dynamism, critical thinking, adaptability, and perseverance. My goal is to expand my expertise in different branches of engineering and actively contribute to industry success by applying this knowledge to achieve their objectives.
