About Simone de Rochefort

Here’s what I do at work: everything. That's how it is in digital media. I started as a video producer, which means I was pitching, writing, hosting, and editing YouTube videos. I still do that, plus everything that’s been added on top: managing a social video producer, content calendars, tracking analytics, and quality-checking posts. I’m at my best when it feels chaotic. I love to keep lists, and checking things off those lists makes me feel energized and excited. Since I started out making longer videos, I had some trepidation about moving to shortform social videos for TikTok and Instagram. I ended up finding it fulfilling. I like how precise the scripts and edits have to be. When you have to write something short, good, and fast, you learn not to be precious about it and just get words on the page, and video in the can. I really like that. I still think long videos have their place. My colleague Clayton Ashley and I directed a feature-length documentary that needed all that time to express a lot of complicated ideas. I’m really proud of that work. I’ve been lucky to work with an incredible team for most of the my career. We supported each other, challenged each other’s ideas, and made all of our work better.
