How a google search changed my life. When I was a kid I wanted to be an anthropologist, but try explaining that one to your parents. So in my childhood bedroom back in Adelaide I thought to myself, what do I like? I landed on stories, learning, people—how about teaching? Let’s just say after becoming a qualified teacher I discovered first hand that teachers really do have one of the hardest jobs in the world. Next. So then I thought, “why don’t I become a storyteller?” And literally googled “how to be a storyteller in 2009 (and get paid)” and I landed on PR. This was my turning point. Had I cracked the career matrix? Not really. Was I one thousand percent more interested in what lay ahead than what I had done previously? Absolutely. Since that infamous google search I’ve set out on a career journey I could never have predicted. From promoting international films to touring works of art across my home state of South Australia, discovering my never ending love for the em dash, playing with the big tech boys on quite literally the other side of the globe in Amsterdam, and most recently entering the world of B2B finance because, well, why not? Nothing like an unexpected plot twist to keep this story interesting. I love the storytelling principles of brand work. I love creating content. I love challenging my counterparts as to “why” a consumer should listen. Anyone who has worked with me closely has heard me say “but why should they care?” or another one of my favourites, “I know we care about this, but…” My specialties include: team management; communication; leadership; project management; social media; marketing strategy; creative thinking; brand management; goal setting; performance testing; web content writing; digital marketing; customer relationship management; strategic thinking; teamwork; decisiveness; budget management.
