About Simone Tuccella

I graduated in the MSc “Solar Energy Engineering” at Dalarna University (Sweden) and in the BA "Energy Engineering" at Polytechnic of Turin (Italy). During my studies, I completed a diverse range of subjects in the fields of energy systems, solar energy and electrical engineering, as well as other technical and management-oriented courses on modelling, experimental set-up, designing, data analysis and optimization of energy systems, with a specific focus on solar energy. I carried out my Master Thesis in Tanzania with Engineers Without Borders Sweden and Mavuno, performing a feasibility study of the grid connection of the PV system at Mavuno Secondary School. As part of the research project, I created an experimental set-up and modelled a stand-alone PV energy system (and its future scenarios) using the program Homer and analyzed the results to suggest its optimization. The provided analysis had a concrete positive impact for the school. After graduating, I began my professional work experience in the humanitarian sector, firstly with an Independent Volunteers Network in Greece in NFI and food distribution, and then with the NGO “INTERSOS”. During the different positions within INTERSOS in the last 2 years, I have been responsible for the technical aspects (WASH, Energy, Shelter, Logistics) in the activities implemented in the Middle East operations. Such experiences supplemented my academic background with a wide range of technical and analytical competence. Additionally, I developed useful skills in activity planning and implementation, team management and communication skills, which have been profoundly important during challenging and stressful situations.
