About Simone Woods

I am a senior policy officer working with ACT Health. I am currently working as an Assistant Director in the Policy, Partnerships and Programs Branch focusing on new regulation and legislation related to Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). I have previously been involved in designing and developing several high-level Government policies and strategies including: • The Best Start for Canberra’s Children: the First Days Strategy (Best Start Strategy) aimed at providing earlier and better supports to children and their families during the first days of life. • The Healthy Canberra: ACT Preventive Health Plan 2020–2025 (ACT Preventive Health Plan) which focuses on preventing chronic disease from occurring across the lifespan. • The Festivals Pill Testing Policy, which authorises drug checking or “pill testing” operations to occur at public events in the ACT and was an Australian first. Prior to joining ACT Health, I worked within Canberra Health Services as a senior Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Canberra Hospital for almost 20 years.
