About Simphiwe Dlulani

I am a Careers Development Advisor at UCT Careers Service (Centre for Higher Education Development – CHED), I am passionate about empowering students through career education, employability development, and impactful student support initiatives. My role involves providing career guidance, facilitating student success, and contributing to innovative strategies that enhance career readiness. Previously, I served as a Project Coordinator / Academic Advisor for the UCT Central Advising and Referral Service (UCT Cares), where I played a key role in designing and implementing student support strategies. My experience also includes working with the Phambili Project, an academic recovery initiative for students at risk of exclusion, and serving as a Peer Advisor in the Humanities Education Development Unit (EDU), offering academic and career support. My professional development includes completing the Academic Advising Professional Development (AAPD) Short Learning Programme (UFS). I also presented the UCT Cares model at the 2023 ELETSA National Academic Advising Seminar and served on the ELETSA Steering Committee, contributing to the development of ethical standards for academic advisors. I also presented the Peer Advising experience at UCT in the 2021 Siyaphumelela conference. Additionally, I have contributed to academic research and scholarship in the field of student support, co-authoring a paper on the conceptualisation and implementation of academic advising at UCT, published in the Journal of Student Affairs in Africa (2021). I am deeply committed to student success, career development, and academic advising, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills, support, and guidance needed to thrive in their academic and professional journeys.
