About Simran Chowdhary

I’m Simran, a Planner with a deep passion for shaping environments that are sustainable, inclusive, and culturally vibrant. My journey began in architecture and urban design, where I earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the Sushant School of Art and Architecture in India. This foundation sparked my interest in how spaces influence our lives, leading me to transition into urban and regional planning with a Master of Planning from the University of Calgary. Driven by my passion for understanding the complexities of built environments, I researched 'Informality in the Built Environment: A Kumasi-Calgary Collaboration Project.' This project earned the Theresa Baxter Social Issues in Environmental Design award and allowed me to explore the intersection of spatial justice, local culture, and placemaking, key themes that continue to guide my professional work. At O2 Planning and Design, I channel this passion into real-world projects, working on regional strategies and community-specific plans. My work includes developing long-range planning documents, engaging with communities to understand their needs, and crafting planning reports that guide sustainable development. Beyond my role at O2, I serve as the Vice Chair of Planning and Urban Development with the Beltline Neighbourhood Association in Calgary. In this role, I actively review development applications and collaborate with local stakeholders to ensure that growth within this vibrant neighbourhood reflects the community’s needs and aspirations. Currently, I’m on the path to obtaining my Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation. I’m always excited to connect with others who share my passion for creating resilient and livable spaces.
