About Sinethemba Xabela

I am a qualified professional with a robust background in Analytical Chemistry. Holding a diploma and B-tech from Walter Sisulu University, Sinethemba gained practical experience as a Chemistry Tutor, enhancing teaching and communication skills. In 2014, Sinethemba worked as a Chemist Trainee at Arkema Coating Resin, gaining insights into industrial chemistry applications. Pursuing advanced studies at the University of Johannesburg, Sinethemba completed a Master's and Doctorate in Chemistry, focusing on membrane filtration technology for synthetic water treatment. This research developed expertise in advanced analytical techniques, including the synthesis and characterization of and membranes, chemistry related materials including inorganic/organic nanomaterials and etc. Joined the Water Sanitation & Hygiene Research & Development (WASH R&D) Centre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in 2024, as a postdoctoral student to conduct a research project in developing a hybrid system for removal of emerging contaminants in wastewater treatment plants. This international collaboration highlights the global impact of my research. Attending professional conferences and completing training in Non-sewered sanitation systems ISO standards and water quality ISO 241, I have expanded knowledge in sanitation, hygiene, and sludge management. Currently co-supervising an MSc student, contributing to the academic development of future chemists and research scientists. My career reflects a dedication to water and chemistry projects, with experience in industrial and academic settings. Proficient in analytical processes, data analysis, problem-solving, teamwork, material synthesis, and computer skills, Sinethemba is committed to advancing water treatment technologies and sustainable sanitation solutions.
