About Sinjini Sinha

Sinjini Sinha is a Ph.D. candidate in the Martindale research lab. Her doctoral research focuses on the Early Jurassic exceptional preservation, mass extinction, and faunal recovery. Sinjini's research addresses critical questions about Earth-Life interactions in deep-time through the synergistic activities of multi-disciplinary science such as Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, and Geochemistry. She studies deep time mass extinction events and climate change with an objective to develop future conservation plans for projected biodiversity crises. Her previous research focused on the systematics and paleoecology of Late Cretaceous sharks from central India and southern England as well as on the diversity of Paleocene bony fishes from Canada. In 2022, concurrently with her doctoral studies, Sinjini was a DAAD visiting researcher at the University of Hamburg, Germany. She has been closely working with scientists from the University of Leeds, UK; Museum fur Naturkunde, Berlin; State Museum of Natural History, Stuttgart; and the University of Florence, Italy. Apart from research, she keeps keen interest in teaching, mentoring, outreach, science communication, and educational psychology. By education, Sinjini holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Geology from the University of Delhi, India; a M.Sc. in Systematics and Evolution from the University of Alberta, Canada, and was awarded the coveted Commonwealth Shared Scholarship to pursue a Master of Research in Vertebrate Palaeontology at the University of Southampton, UK. Sinjini was also an University of Texas at Austin Graduate fellow (2022-2023), nominated by the Jackson School of Geosciences for her doctoral research proposal. She is Geological Society of America’s (GSA)"On To the Future" as well as Stanford University's PRISM fellow, and a strong proponent of diversity and inclusion in STEM.
