About Sizwe Inkingi

Sizwe Inkingi is an Afropolitan multidisciplinary artist based in unseeded terrority of Tktoronto, whose work spans Performance, Video, Publication, and Storytelling. With a Master’s degree in Design from OCADU, specializing in Strategic Foresight and Innovation, Sizwe brings a unique blend of artistic and academic insight to their practice. Their work draws inspiration from lived experiences across East and Southern Africa, exploring the complex interplay between pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial narratives. As a Policy Officer for Rainbow Railroad and former Project Coordinator at the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI), Sizwe has championed the development of national LGBTQI+ guidelines for the resettlement sector across Canada. This advocacy is mirrored in their artistic practice, where themes of blackness, gender identity, spirituality, and migration are woven into vibrant narratives. Through performance art, imagery, and dance, Sizwe explores the fluid relationship between time, space, and identity, highlighting Afrofuturist and queer perspectives. Their work celebrates African queer identities using ritualistic movements, contemporary and traditional music, and storytelling that bridge the past with visions of the future. Sizwe’s thesis, “Narratives Reimagined: The Black Digital Griot in the Modern World”, envisions technology as a modern-day storyteller, preserving the stories of marginalized communities through speculative design and ancestral wisdom. With every project, Sizwe strives to craft a world where every voice is heard, every story is valued, and where design and innovation pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.
