I'm Skylar, a fourth-year Computer Science student at the University of Waterloo, and I am actively seeking internships in software engineering for 2026. I’m passionate about leveraging technology and my own experiences to create meaningful impact, whether it's through innovative software solutions, volunteering, or helping others navigate challenges. I'm currently an undergraduate research assistant at the University of Waterloo, where I extended the Emoji Encoder application—a tool for creating emoji-based infographics—by designing and prototyping a Slackbot interface from the ground up. I recently worked at Microsoft as a Software Engineer Intern, where I led the end-to-end development of a new homepage for The Coalition’s developer admin portal. This involved conducting user interviews, prototyping, and implementing the final solution in React and Next.js. Prior to this, I worked as a Software Engineering Intern at RBC (Summers 2022 & 2023), where I worked with a team of 4 to develop a secure URL shortener Chrome extension. I then returned as a DevOps Engineer, improving the DORA metrics for RBC’s Mobile DevOps ecosystem using Splunk, Jenkins, and Groovy. I was also a Frontend Developer and the UI/UX Design Lead at The Games Institute (Summer 2024), where I led a team of 5 to redesign two research project interfaces, enabling users to submit annotated texts for machine learning model training. In my free time, I write about personal growth, mental health, and overcoming challenges on LinkedIn and Medium.
