About Skylar Kennedy

I’m Skylar, a Master of Public Health (MPH) graduate from Brock University and a graduate of Brock’s Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) program. Through my education and applied work, I’ve developed a strong foundation in epidemiology, biostatistics, qualitative research, and using data to better understand community health needs and outcomes.What motivates me most is exploring how social determinants of health such as income, race, gender, and housing; shape health and well-being. I’m especially interested in bridging the gap between research and practice by translating data and evidence into policies and programs that make health systems more equitable and accessible.Before and during my studies, I gained professional experience as a Team Leader, where I developed skills in leadership, operations management, and problem-solving in fast-paced environments. I’ve also supported public health practice through volunteer roles with Peel Public Health and Hamilton Wentworth District School Board, contributing to communicable disease response and delivering health education to youth.Most recently, I completed my MPH practicum with Huron Perth Public Health, where I led the development of a Child and Youth Mental Health and Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment. This work brought together my interests in data analysis, environmental health, mental health, and equity, and strengthened my skills in research synthesis, knowledge translation, and communicating complex findings to diverse audiences.
