About Smith Lyon

My name is Smith Lyon. I am currently looking for a job in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related fields. I recently graduated Cum Laude from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing & a Political Science minor. Throughout my time at MSU, I was involved in various organizations which allowed me to better both my university and myself professionally. I was also elected to be the 2021 Homecoming King of MSU. As a Roadrunner, I gave over 50 tours to prospective students and their families, something I took great pride in since I have a deep appreciation and love for my university. I was an Orientation Leader in the summer of 2020, sharing with incoming students my knowledge of MSU and getting them acclimated to college. Due to COVID-19, we ran all-virtual sessions, which allowed me to work on a range of digital skills. This was a paid summer role, which also called for 10+ hours weekly for a full semester. As a counselor and programming staff member for New Maroon Camp, a week-long extended Orientation program at MSU, I was able to build up and use various facets of my leadership. I was a staff member for all 3 years of my college career. A mentor at Brickfire, an after-school program for Starkville youth, I was able to spend time with and mentor several kids by helping them with homework, playing games with them, and more. I also served as the Multimedia Coordinator for a semester, running all social media pages, creating all graphics, promoting applications, heading up all photography and videography, and promoting a fundraising campaign which garnered thousands of dollars in funds. The Student Association’s Freshman Forum, now restructured and called by a different name, was an freshman organization made up by 40 freshmen and 4 student directors. I was the Director of Marketing for the organization which put on the first annual ‘Undecided Conference’, a conference aimed at developing the professional and interpersonal skills of students at Mississippi State University. I have also been involved in Freshman Council, Gamma Beta Phi, Sigma Chi fraternity, and more. In terms of work experience, I have worked as a seasonal lifeguard at the Greenwood, MS Country Club, a corporate intern and executive assistant at Chawla Lodging, a hotel management company based in Greenwood, and a tennis instructor at Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club’s summer camp in Seminole, FL. I am also working full-time temporarily in the Office of Orientation & Events at Mississippi State University.
