About Sofia Capella

Generative) artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare (and many other fields), but are we protecting patients' rights while doing it? My name is Sofia Capella, a philosopher and ethics researcher on my way to ask (sometimes annoying, but always necessary) questions about technology and its use. Do you think AI is only about speed and efficiency? I challenge that assumption. Humans are social by nature, driven by connection, empathy, and a sense of justice. This is the lens I use to ethically analyse new technologies, especially those used in public areas such as healthcare, policymaking, prisons, and more. Recently, I-Wrote a master's thesis on eldercare policies and how they impact informal care workers’ autonomy, especially women with low economic resources- Conducted independent research at Health Action International on how generative AI affects patients' rights in clinical settings (focused on data protection, non-discrimination, and informed consent)- Collaborated with the 4D PICTURE project to ethically assess the use of sensitive data from public platforms (Reddit, Facebook) to train medical AI models (applying the Theory of Contextual Integrity)- Wrote a bachelor's thesis on the digitalisation of borders, analysing EURODAC, the EU's biometric database for asylum seekers and migrants, and its effects on human rights. Philosophy degree from Universitat de Barcelona, Master's in Applied Ethics from Utrecht University.
