About Sofia Dertimanis

I fell out of love with my career, and in the process of finding a new one I learned that I could bring the parts I loved with me. My first career was as a Stage Manager for musicals, opera, and ballet. It's a job defined by flexibility, creativity, and being able to problem solve in emergencies by leaning on years of experiences where strange solutions save the day. Will the audience be able to hear a drill backstage if we repair this table right now? If we use clamps instead can it hold the weight of two dancers? You don't only have to think outside of the box, you have to design and build the box yourself and then break it apart when all of your plans go awry. I fell out of love with and left live theatre because I needed more structure, a more normal work-life balance. I found those things, but I also found hours of mind-numbing boredom. There weren’t a lot of split second decisions in accounts payable and receivable, or moments to create magic and mystery while shipping swag to a trade show.But what I discovered over time doing these repetitive tasks was that innovation does require creativity. The propensity to ask questions, be curious, and to follow every "no" with a ".but what if we" is how I create a new process that saves hours of time. It means I now have the time to research new tools, reduce errors, make an end-product more user friendly and change the way my company does business. It might not be art, but I can still ensure my work is new and exciting is far from boring. I am driven, curious, detail-oriented, methodical, and skilled at adapting to change. With an array of experience in events and live production environments, I excel both as an accomplished communicator on interconnected teams and a self-motivated contributor when working alone. I thrive in environments where I can tackle new and diverse challenges. I problem-solve quickly and creatively to overcome obstacles and deliver results.
