About Sofia Fabiancic

Experienced Policy Analyst with a background in international affairs. Development and social services professional graduated from Hertie School. At Hertie, I specialized in Security & Sustainability within the Master of International Affairs course. Parallel to my studies, I completed an internship at UNESCO’s field office in Peru, working for the Education Sector. Upon finishing the internship, I remained on the team as a consultant investigating Intercultural Bilingual Education policies as part of the knowledge-generating mission of UNESCO; this research is also the focus of my master’s thesis. Previous work experiences include an internship at UNICEF Brazil and the European External Action Service Delegation in Caracas, Venezuela. I am looking forward to further career opportunities in the international development cooperation sector, particularly in Latin America. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in French and Italian Philology from Freie Universität in Berlin. During this time, I focused on the contentious concept of 'françafrique' and the effects of neocolonialism on development cooperation. My Bachelor thesis explored gender tropes in heroines of French 'théâtre classique'. My interests in linguistics and language have made me an advocate for minority languages as an essential part of cultural identity and global cultural heritage.
