About Sofia Garcia

I’m a senior at Columbia University majoring in Biomedical Engineering, passionate about solving real-world healthcare problems through data, systems thinking, and cross-functional teamwork. My interest in biomedical innovation is deeply personal—my younger brother was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when we were kids, and since then, I’ve been driven to help develop better solutions for chronic conditions like his. My experiences span both wet lab research and computational biology. I’ve contributed to immunology and cancer dormancy projects at Columbia University Medical Center and the University of Minnesota, where I worked on everything from qPCR and imaging to immune repertoire analysis using Seurat and Immunarch in R. I currently serve as an undergraduate researcher in the Creusot Lab, where I’m investigating how fibroblastic reticular cells influence regulatory T cell responses. Beyond the lab, I lead Columbia’s Taekwondo Club as President, manage operations and programming with a 9-person executive board, and work as a Visitors Center Intern helping prospective students engage with campus life. I’m also actively involved in SHPE and the Venezuelan Student Association. I'm excited to apply my engineering, research, and communication skills in life sciences consulting where I can help translate complex biological challenges into strategic solutions that improve health outcomes at scale.
