About Sofia Janmohamed

With more than 22 years of experience in the fundraising sector, Sofia is especially passionate about leadership and professional development. She is currently serving as the Interim President of the AFP Greater Vancouver Chapter and was the Chapter’s Pandemic President from 2020-2022. Professionally, Sofia is the Executive Director, Development at Simon Fraser University. Her role focuses on all levels of pipeline development, working closely with Foundations and Corporations, as well as providing leadership for faculty fundraising. Prior to this, she was the Vice President of Leadership Giving at Canadian Cancer Society, managing the major gifts, corporate giving, and foundations program across Canada. Sofia has also held senior leadership positions at the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation and other roles at Simon Fraser University. Sofia became a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) in 2010 and completed her Master of Business Administration in 2016. She is an AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising instructor, AFP Mentor, and a contributing author to Excellence in Fundraising in Canada Volume 1 Second Edition. Sofia was awarded Outstanding Fundraising Professional by Charity Village in 2021 and was appointed to the District Cabinet for CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education) in 2023.
