About Sofia Lundqvist

Hi! My name is Fia and I am a first year medical biotechnology student attending KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. In May 2024, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelors of Science in bioengineering and a minor in Scandinavian. I am currently conducting research at SciLifeLab National Genomics Infrastructure in method development, specifically of RNA sequencing. I worked in Streets lab at UC Berkeley for 2 years on multiple projects though my biggest focus was developing a simplified protocol for directed methylation long DNA read sequencing (DiMeLo-Seq). My passion for biomedical engineering began by co-founding of Lifeline4Africa, a non-profit organization, as it taught me the power of devices and technology to positively impact others. My main aspiration has always been to help others and I believe that working in the field of bioengineering is the most effective and personally enticing way to accomplish this. Though my career plans are in no way set in stone, I plan on attending a PhD program upon my graduation followed by working in industry. Alongside my academic and professional aspirations, my passions include volunteering, hiking, cooking/baking, reading, spending time with my friends and family, and strangely enough circuits.
