About Sofia Reva

My interest for research and impactful projects has started developing in my early school years. At the age of 12, I authored and successfully defended my first research project at the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. My exploration into Ukrainian folklore and its influence on social behaviour earned me second place in the annual school competition. Since then, my life has been driven by intellectual curiosity and continued self-development. Growing up in Ukraine I witnessed challenges within my communities - challenges that persist to this day. At 17, I decided to move abroad to pursue a Bachelor’s degree. Despite my young age, I had already developed a strong sense of self and social causes and charitable work have held a special place in my heart ever since. This led me to study BBA in Management at Lancaster University to gain comprehensive understanding of the business world that created a foundation for my active participation in community life. During my time at university, my passion for making positive impact manifested in my first business proposal— a non-profit organisation focused on combating loneliness by fostering connections between elderly individuals and students. Additionally, during my year abroad in Portugal, I founded a social enterprise aimed at educating children on healthy eating habits to help tackle children’s obesity. To this day, improving people’s lives remains my ultimate goal — both personally and professionally. One of my proudest professional achievements so far has been a report on food safety and health where I uncovered that adults with food hypersensitivities face higher financial burden. As a result, I highlighted the urgency for financial support for affected individuals in the final report, the results of which were quoted in the BBC article in 2023. In addition, I co-authored thought pieces delving into health and social care inequalities, the ways of identifying disparities between population groups and proposed strategies to address these using advanced analytics tools, such as AI and ML. Overall, I firmly believe a practical approach is essential to inspire and drive social change. This conviction has led me to start my Instagram and TikTok food and nutrition blog where I share with people the latest scientific discoveries in the field and inspire individuals to prepare healthy and delectable dishes. In my daily life, I try staying active through activities like squash and surfing as I believe living a healthy lifestyle can profoundly affect the quality of life. Thanks for reading my profile :)
