WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT: Housing Consultants Group (HCG) started from very humble beginnings HCG was dedicated to Financial Literacy and evolved with the economy to become deeply entrenched in pre-foreclosure and post-foreclosure counseling. Please note that this was during the years that followed the financial crisis of 2008. Fast forward to 2015 and the environment for fund-raising and grants has changed dramatically with fund sources drying up entirely or being re-aligned outside of our reach. My Board of Directors quickly directed me to create new income streams to fund HCG's ongoing programs and mission. And it is here where I think that HCG stands out as a Non-profit in our market. As the Executive Director I assessed my skillsets, identified our defining differentiator, and developed a brand new program. The focus of the new HCG program: Serving as the Non-Profit Realtor for a city program. That program was desperately trying to find the best way to build, rehab, or modernize homes in a potentially blighted area of the city. Last year the organization was licensed to market and sell real estate; the fees for any properties sold by HCG are earned revenue for the emerging non-profit. I was already serving the community by providing Individual Development Account (IDA) classes, First-time Homebuyer classes, and a rarely seen successful lease-option to own program. The unmet need of deteriorating homes was an unmet that we could help to resolve. The Bottom Line: A Win/Win/Win/Win It's a.win for the Community Impact, a win for the City Government, a win for HCG, and a win for the partnering non-profit – Community Housing Solutions.
