About Sofia Varino

I am a writer, researcher, and lecturer based in Berlin, Germany. With a focus on intersectional queer feminist praxis, my work spans political ecology, environmental and disability justice, science and technology studies, and critical pedagogy. My book Aquatopia: Climate Interventions (Routledge, 2023), a queer decolonial ethnography of global water politics co-authored with May Joseph, was selected for a Spotlight by the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment. My dissertation monograph Vital Differences: Indeterminacy and the Biomedical Body examined biomedical narratives and practices in Anglo-American cultural contexts. I have published in leading academic journals including Catalyst, Shima, Somatechnics, European Journal of Women’s Studies, and Women’s Studies Quarterly as well as in several edited volumes. I hold a PhD in Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies with a Certificate in Art and Philosophy from Stony Brook State University of New York (SUNY).
