About Sofie Verdoodt

Dr. Sofie Verdoodt writes poetry and essays about film and art for cultural media (film and art magazines, exhibition and festival catalogues) as well as for academic media. Devoted lecturer and teacher (Bachelor / Master, higher art education). Research interests: experimental film, avant-garde, memory studies, Eastern-European cinema. Interdisciplinary approach and practice based: long term experience as artistic director at Art Cinema OFFoff and freelance film curator. In 2023, I published my second book of poetry Anker Kruis Hart (shortlisted for De Grote Poëzieprijs and winner of the audience award). Nine poems were translated by Egar Garr for the European platform Versopolis. My first collection 'Doodwater'(Poëziecentrum, 2014) was followed by a spoken word split album on 7inch together with postmetal band Amenra. Poems were published in magazines such as Poëziekrant, DW B, De Brakke Hond, nY, and in poetry collections: De Volksverheffing (Uitgeverij Atlas), Nieuw Groot Verzenboek, De 44 beste gedichten voor de Herman de Coninckprijs. In 2024 I received the Melopee Poëzieprijs for best poem published in a literary magazine in Flanders.
