About Solomon Cyr

Raised on the Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation, Solomon Cyr, belongs to the George Gordon First Nation (GGFN) and identifies strongly with his Saulteaux (Ojibwa) heritage. Solomon’s academic pursuits began at the Treaty Four Education Centre in Regina. From 2006 to 2008, he attended the First Nations University of Canada, immersing himself in the Indian Communications Arts (INCA) program. His extensive experience in First Nations governance and administration is noteworthy. Solomon has held positions such as the ‘Special Advisor & Policy Analyst’ for the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council (FHQTC) and has served in pivotal capacities like the ‘Senate Coordinator’ and ‘Intergovernmental Liaison’ at the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations. Furthermore, he contributed significantly as the Executive Assistant to the Chief and Council of the GGFN. Between 2014 and 2016, Solomon expanded his professional horizons as the Marketing & Communications Officer for George Gordon Developments Ltd. In this role, he played a critical part in creating engagement strategies for projects like TC's Energy East and the Enbridge Line 3 Replacement Program (L3RP). Solomon's forward-thinking also led to the birth of GGDL’s Wicehtowak Workforce Development Program, generating employment opportunities for numerous Indigenous individuals in and around Regina. In the sphere of child and family services, Solomon has demonstrated his commitment and expertise. He served as the ‘Project Coordinator & Policy Writer’ for the Qu’Appelle, Beardy’s & Okemasis Child and Family Services agency (QBOW) in Fort Qu’Appelle. While associated with Qu’Appelle Child & Family Services (QCFS), he co-authored the Transitional & Service Delivery Plans, catalyzing the agency's evolution into QBOW. A defining moment in 2017 was Solomon's participation as a principal juror in the ‘Coroner’s Inquest’ concerning the tragic passing of Nadine Machiskinic. As the Jury Foreman, the team re-evaluated and changed the cause of death from "accidental" to "undetermined." Back in 2004, Solomon made his mark on "Canadian Idol", earning a golden ticket and securing a spot among Canada's top 100 participants. Earlier in his life, Solomon was honoured to perform for King Charles then known as the Prince of Wales. In January 2023, Solomon received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, being one of the recipients in Saskatchewan. In May 2023 Solomon attended to London for the King's Coronation as a part of the Monarchist League of Canada's delegation.
