About Somendra Pratap Singh

What’s the most fantastic part about being a Mechanical Engineer? To me, it’s the ability to drive a concept from an idea to a physical entity; and navigating through the hundreds of problems in-between. I dived into the automotive industry right after graduating with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering. After working for over a year on comprehensive brake testing and variability reduction at Bajaj Auto Ltd, I finally got to work in my intended specialization: Power-train Design, a field that brought together my skills in CAD (UG NX, Solidworks), ANSYS, Star CCM, MATLAB, Simulink, product development and vendor coordination. Despite being the youngest member of the team, I handled engine intake and cooling system component design for the entire ‘commuter segment’ of the organization; right from the conceptual stage to final production stage. The inflection point, however, were the projects involving the design of Electric Vehicle Battery cooling system design. Not only were those projects a reflection of transportation’s near future, but also a chance for me to experiment with all tools available in tackling issues that were unprecedented in the organization. What a dynamic industry requires is a professional who truly considers learning to be an unceasing process; and this statement has held true for me at every phase of my life. With the developing vision of the automotive industry and my involvements as a graduate student at Ohio State University (OSU EcoCar), I look forward to working at an organization that allows me to contribute to the future of Transportation Industry.
