About Sompop Bencharit

Dr. Sompop Bencharit is currently a Professor, Associate Dean for Innovation, and Chief Innovation Officer at the Workman School of Dental Medicine, High Point University. Previously, he served as a Professor and Assistant Dean for Innovation and the Founding Chair of the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Bencharit was the Founding Director of Digital Dentistry Technologies and Director of Clinical Research at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Dr. Bencharit earned his DDS and Diploma in Prosthodontics from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. He furthered his education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he obtained a Certificate and Master's Degree in Prosthodontics, a PhD in Oral Biology, and a Certificate in Clinical Research. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the International College of Dentists. In 2021, Dr. Bencharit received the ACP Distinguished Researcher award. He has an extensive publication record, with over 100 peer-reviewed articles and more than 100 published abstracts. Dr. Bencharit holds several editorial positions, including Associate Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics, Academic Editor for PLoS ONE, Scientific Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports, and Co-Chair for the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics Implant Monograph. As an Editorial Contributor for the ADA/Elsevier PracticeUpdate Clinical Dentistry, he has authored over take-home messages. Additionally, he has actively participated in national and international research groups and committees, including serving as Director and Program Chair for the International Association for Dental Research/American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR/AADOCR)-Prosthodontic Research Group, as well as Research Committee Member for the ACP and American Academy of Osseointegration (AO).
