About Sonal Mishra

With over 10 years of experience in the patent industry, Sonal Mishra applies his techno-legal expertise in electrical, electronics, mechanical, ICT, software and other "hi-tech" technologies to patent matters. His practice encompasses myriad aspects of patent laws, with an emphasis on patent analytics, drafting, prosecution, patent litigation, client counseling, and advisory on Intellectual Property protection, commercialization and litigation strategies. He has a strong techno-legal background and specializes in handling clients across multiple industries including, software, clean energy and renewables, steel, mining, automobile, communication systems, electrical equipments, mobile applications, manufacturing and consumer electronics. He also expertises in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, particularly for EPO and USPTO. He also handles and manages complex litigation patent matters across districts courts, high courts in India. He is also instrumental in assisting with the evolvement of patent jurisprudence in India through advocacy in courts, sensitization programs, talks at multiple forums. Prior to joining the Law School, He also worked with Accenture services Pvt. Ltd as a Software Engineer. He then joined Tata Consultancy Services as a Patent Attorney responsible particularly for drafting and prosecution applications across major patent offices including, but not limited to IPO, EPO, USPTO, JPO. He has also worked with Tata Steel Ltd. as a consultant, advising them on patent filing, prosecution, monetization and litigation strategies. Currently associated with L S Davar & Co. as Director of Patents handling wide variety of matters including patent drafting and prosecution, Freedom-to-operate studies, licensing support, IP transactional agreements, patent oppositions, appeals before the high courts, revocations, infringement suits and client advisory on patent related matters to foriegn and indian corporates, startups, academic institutions, MSMEs, individual inventors and govermment. SEP related work: Drafting and prosecuting applications related to standard essential Patents. Contributed to the discussion paper on standard essential Patents and their availability on FRAND released by the government of India. Currently working on a thesis to study the requirements and contents of NDA in a FRAND licensing agreement.
