About Sonam K.

Hey all, I'm Sonam (pronounced "so-num" like you're so numb from the cold) and I am a backend product developer with a penchant for finding ways to improve efficiency. I am passionate about working and collaborating cross-functionally. My personal strengths are my flexibility, curiosity, tenacity and communication. My technical strengths are in backend development (some infrastructure), particularly APIs and databases (SQL), problem solving and technical design.I am a career changer. I started my career as a neuroscience research specialist where I studied the effects of mindfulness and meditation practices. It was there that I was forced to pick up programming, something I didn't think I could do but needed to do, because we did essentially all data processing and analysis in-house. I started with Matlab, and from there, I picked up a little of Python, Ruby and Bash. As I learned more, I fell more in love with programming, which led me to the decision to go back to school for a BS in computer science.That led me to an internship with Delphix, which soon after converted to a full-time opportunity (there was a short snag after I graduated because Delphix had some layoffs and rescinded intern full-time offers in 2019, but I was invited back when they resumed hiring).DE & I is also a priority for me. I co-led the Delphix Women's ERG, and I am determined to proactively increase the number of women in tech. I sourced my engineering team's entire intern pool in 2021 from my alma mater and have mentored and advised the women who were offered internships and ultimately converted to full-time.In my free time, you'll find me lifting at the gym, attempting to run (short leg problems), watching reality TV (guilty pleasure), traveling, reading, writing, and spending quality time with my dog Copper.
