About Sonia Chand

I am a licensed professional counselor who is on the autism spectrum in Chicago, IL. I am currently working with a group practice. I administer therapy to clients who present with various different issues, including but not limited to; autism spectrum disorder, social anxiety, general anxiety, mood disorders, anger management, self-esteem, and personality disorders. I utilize a variety of theories and techniques depending on what is appropriately tailored towards the client's needs. Some techniques I have used are CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic therapy. I am a published author of "Dropped in a Maze". The book is memoir that discusses my social and emotional challenges pre and post diagnosis. I provide tools I acquired from the lessons I learned along the way. Such lessons include navigating friendship and therapeutic relationships, self-esteem building, learning strategies, assertiveness building, and navigating career. The book is available on Amazon. I also have a podcast On the Spectrum with Sonia where we discuss autism spectrum, mental health challenges, and highlight any stories that leave people feeling encouraged, inspired, hopeful, and connected; especially in a world that wants to leave us feeling disconnected on a daily basis. Running is one of my favorite hobbies and ways to keep fit. I run marathons for Autism Speaks Team Up. I was featured on NBC's segment for charity runners back in 2021. So far, I have run 14 marathons. I am aiming to run marathon number 15 in New York City for what will be a 4th time running in that city.
