About Sonia Cheng

Hello! I'm Sonia, a third-year student at the University of Florida pursuing a degree in chemical engineering with a minor in biomolecular engineering. Passionate about the intersection of engineering and medicine, I’m particularly interested in protein engineering and drug development. My academic and research pursuits are driven by a desire to innovate in these fields, contributing to advancements in biomedicine. As an undergraduate researcher, I’ve contributed to projects in the Denard Lab (protein function in genetic disorders) and the Fanucci Lab (intrinsically disordered proteins). These experiences have equipped me with strong analytical, problem-solving, and laboratory skills. Beyond research, I’ve also served as a UF Chemistry teaching assistant and the Culture Chair for UF’s FSA chapter. Currently, I’m gaining industry experience as a Process Improvement Engineer intern at Milliken Chemical and a remote Operations Intern at Kyinno Biotech.
