About Sonia Monteiro

I graduated with a Licenciatura (undergraduate degree) in Biology Applied to Natural Resources - branch of Marine Resources from the University of Lisbon, Portugal (1996) and a PhD in Marine Ecology from the University of Sydney, Australia (2002). Following my PhD I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Guia Marine Laboratory. I have also worked as a Research Assistance in several EU funded projects (e.g. EuroRock and PumpSea). In 2008 I made the transition to research support when I become a projects officer in the now School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) at UCC. In 2011, I moved to Aberystwyth where I worked in the Research Office. I returned to Cork and UCC in 2012 to take up a position as Research Officer, in RSS, within the OVPRI. In this role, I was responsible for providing support for the development of Horizon 2020 and other EU funding proposals, across all research areas. I also supported the development of proposals to national funding agencies such as the Irish Research Council and the Environmental Protection Agency. I also got involved in providing training (e.g. grant writing; managing research collaborations, etc.), and support (e.g. career management advice) to postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
