About Sonia Sugg

Sonia is an executive and leadership coach with a wide range of experience in academic medical systems including program and service line development, medical and graduate medical education, and faculty development and wellness. Her passion is to enable individuals envision and achieve their professional and personal goals. As a coach, she brings presence, discernment, intellect, and empathy to her work with clients. She supports her clients to achieve their goals with focus, creativity, and accountability. An Emeritus Professor of Surgery with over 25 years of experience in academic medicine, Sonia ran a funded cancer research laboratory, led multidisciplinary clinical cancer programs, served as fellowship director, and trained and mentored countless medical students, surgery residents, and fellows. She has expertise in career development, having served on the College of Medicine’s promotion and tenure committee, and created formal mentoring and coaching programs in her department. National leadership roles include serving on the Executive Council and as Vice-President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and as Chair of the AAES Career and Leadership Committee. Sonia established a successful career in the demanding discipline of academic surgery and raised a family at a time when there were few role models of diversity or work-life balance. These experiences drive her passion for creating programs that foster a supportive and inclusive working environment for all. As a coach, Sonia has worked with individual leaders and emerging leaders in academic medical centers, government agencies, as well as with groups in the technology sector. She is a certified Executive and Leadership Coach through the Hudson Institute of Coaching, and has formal training in group coaching, Enneagram (iEQ9) assessment, and Organizational Mindfulness.
