About Sonja Prostran

Sonja Prostran is a Serbian judge and a leading advocate of court administration reform, with a significant experience in the area of public administration. Judge Prostran currently serves as COP for East-West Management Institute (EWMI) under USAID-funded Judicial System Strengthening Activity in Uzbekistan where she is responsible for assisting the judicial branch in making its administration of justice more efficient, transparent and responsive to the needs of its users. Judge Prostran has a significant experience related to improving court administration and case management in Serbian courts, rule of law and judicial reform in general, human rights and social issues having dealt with governmental and non-governmental institutions, including High Court Council, the Ministry of Justice, local courts of all levels, Judicial Academy, Judges Association in Serbia, and vulnerable/disadvantaged groups. During her tenure as a judge in the Second Municipal Court in Belgrade and District Court in Belgrade, Ms. Prostran contributed significantly to making the administration of justice more efficient and transparent. She has succeeded in establishing a victims’ and witnesses' support unit within the District Court in Belgrade and contributed to improving its public relations and communications. Judge Prostran also conducted a regional survey and wrote a seminal report on how to increase transparency on certain types of cases. Judge Prostran also has extensive experience as a trainer, having trained and lectured on many human rights and legal protection topics to diverse audiences, including Serbian judges and legal personnel, NGOs and public in general.
