About Sonnet Hines

I’m passionate about communication, public speaking, and creative expression. These skills have guided my leadership and community involvement over the years. I currently serve as the Lead Mentor for the Creative School at TMU, where I support faculty wide mentorship programming and help foster connection across the student community. I also work as an Academic Link with TMU Housing, supporting students in their academic transition and promoting a strong sense of belonging in residence life. My leadership journey has included roles such as VP of Events for my program (following time on the events committee), Content Creator for HOEM, and Student Body President in high school. Through these experiences, I’ve developed the ability to collaborate effectively, execute plans with purpose, and communicate clearly across a variety of platforms. Outside of school and leadership, I express myself through writing poetry and running a YouTube channel designed to help students acclimate to university life. Community work is also central to who I am. I’ve volunteered with organizations like Halton Black Voices and previously collaborated with the YMCA of Oakville. At my core, I’m driven to uplift others, contribute to positive change, and give back to the communities that have shaped me.
