About Sophie Lamond

My career is a combination of research, activism, community development and lots of good food. I am currently a research fellow at Melbourne School of Government investigating the potential of social procurement and how we can apply the Anchor Institution framework in the Australian context. I undertook my PhD at the Melbourne School of Government, University of Melbourne researching campus food movements and the contributions institutions can make to transforming food systems. I conducted extensive fieldwork in higher education institutions across the US to learn more about their foodscapes and the work of campus communities to drive sustainable transformations within institutions. While undertaking my masters in sustainable food systems, I worked with a brilliant group of fellow students to start The Fair Food Challenge, which facilitated student-led co-design of fair food policies for Australian universities, and campaigned for healthy, sustainable and equitable food environments. I have run community kitchens, mentored food projects and hosted the occasional apocalyptic dinner party. I speak, write and facilitate events to open up conversations about good food and to explore possible food futures. I publish the occasional newsletter called Bite-Sized.
