Working as a foreign trade project manager in Japan feels like playing a global version of Monopoly every single day. The difference is that my cards don’t say “Park Place” or “Free Parking” — instead, they read “logistics delays,” “client urgencies,” and “supplier changes.” Even so, this job fills me with a sense of challenge and accomplishment.As a foreign trade project manager, I’m constantly “putting out fires.” One time, a typhoon caused cargo to be stuck at Yokohama Port, and the client was on the verge of panic. I calmly pulled out my “superwoman skill set”: coordinating with the port authority, finding alternative shipping solutions, and using various “advanced emotional management techniques” to reassure the client. When the shipment finally arrived on time, I silently thought to myself, “This is even more thrilling than food delivery, but the sense of achievement is off the charts!”Supply chain management sometimes feels like building with LEGO—complex yet incredibly fun. Communicating with clients from different countries, I’ve come to see myself as a “cultural translator.” Japanese clients demand "speed and precision," European clients value “elegance and comfort,” while American clients emphasize “efficiency above all.” Balancing these expectations feels like leveling up in a game every day—it’s both enriching and entertaining. Honestly, I sometimes feel like I’m becoming an expert in cross-cultural communication.As a woman in this dynamic and fast-paced industry, it sometimes feels like walking a tightrope. But it’s precisely because of this that I’ve learned to move forward with resilience and grace under pressure. Supply chain work may sound serious and dry, but to me, it’s more like a giant "live-action role-playing game," where each step tests your decision-making, coordination, and quick problem-solving skills. And me? I suppose I’m the "hidden pro" who always manages to unlock those secret levels.What gives me the greatest satisfaction is seeing goods move from factories, overcome countless obstacles, and finally reach the hands of clients. Every time a client says, “Thanks to you, we made it,” I feel like I’ve completed a “hero’s journey” across the global map, and my inner pride soars to its peak.
