About Spencer Doyle

Hi! My name is Spencer, and I’m a physicist turned renewable-energy advocate. In graduate school at Harvard, I was an experimental condensed matter physics researcher. I synthesized novel oxide materials and characterized their electronic properties with the goal of finding the building blocks of next-generation technologies, primarily in magnetic-memory devices and solid-state batteries. As I finished my Ph.D, I wanted to apply my technical expertise to a space that I felt more directly served society and had more immediate impact. Enter: renewable energy. I’m currently working with the Solar Energy Technologies Office at the Department of Energy which provides funding opportunities for researchers and developers to innovate in solar energy. As a member of the Systems Integration team, I work on identifying challenges and opportunities that inverter-based resources present for grid operators. I hope to continue working on renewable energy and beyond for the betterment of society.
