About Spencer Hamons

With 26 years’ experience as an IT & operations professional in healthcare, I am dedicated to educating people about the needs of modern healthcare organizations; particularly how the intersection of data management solutions and new technologies are enabling patient-centered care initiatives. I am privileged to hold the position of Chief Information Officer for Healthcare at NetApp, where I bring real-world healthcare CIO experience to the team, ensuring alignment and delivery of healthcare-optimized data management systems. In parallel, I thoroughly enjoy my role on the Advisory Board for Northwestern University's various Master's of Health Informatics, which enables me to remain current with academic thinking.I began my professional career as a combat medic, since taking every opportunity to transform healthcare organizations through the people their patients rely on. Positions where my perspective has contributed to this transformation include Corp Director of IT for all of the Community Hospitals of Houston Methodist; CIO at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, Conejos County Hospital, and SLV Physician Services in Colorado. This led to a position with the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Alaska before moving on to Taos—and ultimately, NetApp.My role at NetApp has been largely formed by my time as both CIO and COO in health systems. I was responsible for a broad range of IT and line-of-business responsibilities. Overseeing such a wide domain helped me grow in my ability to facilitate company-wide collaboration between teams.I am passionate about technology, but also the development of people to their fullest potential. Teams make projects work, and growing together is an important journey in making technology breakthroughs & solving complex issues.On a personal note, I am a private pilot, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and love to ski & golf. Professionally, I am honored to serve on committees with HIMSS, CHIME, and ACHE.
