About Stacey Herman

I am the Assistant Vice President of Neurodiversity and Community Workforce Development at Kennedy Krieger Institute. My duties include the creation and supervision of two programs designed to support young adults as they transition to the workforce. This role allows me to interact directly with individuals while working with multiple departments inside Kennedy Krieger Institute and the business community to raise awareness, train and develop employment opportunities for individuals of all abilities. I am a member of Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Neurodiversity Initiative, working with community leaders, business professionals, and policy makers to realize the Institute’s long-term goal of improving employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. I hold the positions of president of the Association of People Supporting Employment First Maryland Chapter, and an appointed member of the Interagency Transition Council for Youth with Disabilities in Maryland and Governor’s Workforce Development Board in Maryland. I graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Inclusion Elementary and Special Education. I then continued my education receiving a Master of Science in Special Education at John’s Hopkins University. In my studies, I focused on severe disabilities with an emphasis in autism. I was recognized, along with a colleague, as a 2019 Leader in Diversity by the Baltimore Business Journal. I recently received the 2020 Leading Women aware presented by The Daily Record. I grew up in a small town near Scranton, Pennsylvania and moved to Maryland to pursue my career in education. I was a Special Education teacher in Howard County for five years. I transitioned to the non-profit sector where I developed an Inclusion and Disabilities program in the D. C area focusing on vocational training, employment, wellness, and social programming. I continue to be involved in working groups across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area focused on employment, healthy relationships, and transitioning youth. I am passionate about providing individuals of all abilities the opportunities, tools, and supports to have a successful adult life. I aspire to break barriers, change the social norms, and equal opportunities for all. We make the impossible, possible!
