I have had the opportunity of being a school administrator for fourteen years. I am currently in my eighth year as a Principal with the Upper Canada District School Board. First and foremost, as a leader I am passionate about children and empowering them to be the best they can be. Everything I do as a leader is centered around the whole child: emotional, social, and physical well-being. It is my job to cultivate an environment that promotes integrity, equity and inclusiveness, safety, well-being, creativity, and innovation. As a leader in the building, every decision I make revolves around the child and these core values. I model these values for not only my staff but for the students and community as well. As a school Principal, I believe in the coaching and mentorship of others. Building capacity and focusing on my role in the development of others. My approach to professional development and my role as an instructional leader is defined by making my own learning a part of the experience with others versus simply making my knowledge available. I believe that my role as a lead learner needs to be made visible. My perspective is broad, but my actions remain focused on the students, staff and community who work alongside me. Embracing opportunities for learning, growth and reflection continues to be a pivotal part of my professional practice. As a school leader, I believe that it is important for me to remain in a learning and coachable mindset, but also contribute to the growth and development of students, staff, our schools and our board’s strategic plan. As a leader, I have the passion, drive, and desire to serve students, staff, parents, and community. I want the best for everyone I work with and want to support them in their growth and development. I am reflective in my own practice and continually ask myself what more I can do to support and inspire the people I serve.
