I believe in the power of inquiry-based learning as it allows students to learn in ways that are most relevant to them. It allows some element of student choice where appropriate, and helps learners make the most of their abilities. My success with inquiry-based learning is rooted in having a strong, individual relationship with each student. It starts with making a connection - a sports team, a hobby, or anything important to them - and building on that connection as the year progresses. These relationships foster a safe classroom environment where students can be themselves, share honest ideas, and explore new ideas. In my classroom we celebrate our differences, our successes, and most importantly our failures. It is through these failures that I see some of the most profound learning experiences for the individual student and often for the entire class.
