Stacy Hammer, M.P.H.(C), RDN, LD, Stacy is Bdewakantunwan (Spirit Lake Dwellers) Dakota and comes from Cansayapi (Where They Paint the Trees Red), otherwise known as Lower Sioux; one of four Dakota communities in MN. Stacy is a nutrition expert with over 10 years experience, leading multiple nutrition related efforts in tribal communities.Stacy currently serves as the National Nutrition Consultant for the Indian Health Service, in the Division of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention, Office of Clinical and Preventive Services (OCPS). In her role she serves as the principle nutrition consultant and expert for culturally sensitive and creative leadership in organizing, developing and implementing nutrition components of OCPS programs and initiatives at IHS. Additionally, she serves as the Program Official for the IHS Produce Prescription Pilot Program. Her prior experience included working as the Director of Community Health and Registered Dietitian for the Lower Sioux Indian Community (LSIC). Her responsibilities as the Director of Community Health for the LSIC, included grant writing, building relationships and collaborating with parters in the tribal, non-profit and State and Federal Government sectors. Her role had also included developing and implementing several new public health programs and initiatives in the prevention and maintenance of chronic health conditions. Further, Stacy had led, managed, and coordinated all functions, operations, staffing and programs for the LSIC Community Health Department.
