As a middle school art teacher, I have always loved the impact I have made on my students. There isn't a better feeling then that "A ha" moment a student arrives at when they finally get it. This is why, in 2005, I decided to pursue teaching in another realm. Dogs are a passion of mine. They are fascinating animals full of nothing but love and devotion for their human companions. I volunteered at a local animal shelter for many years. It was a fulfilling, yet heartbreaking experience. I was amazed at how many dogs were given up due to behavior issues. Most of the behavior issues the shelter dogs had were due to lack of training and/or care. Many behavior problems could have been easily avoided had a human invested some time in proper care, socialization and training. That was when I decided to further my education and learn how to help people better communicate with their furry companions. I have been learning and training dogs (people) since 2006. My focus is on teaching manners and basic obedience to dogs and their human counterparts. Dogs who are well mannered and obedient are desireable to live with and they are less likely to be given up to a shelter.
