About Stacy Young

Audre Lorde once said,"I am deliberate, and afraid of nothing." And as a staunch supporter and critic of the United States public education system, that's exactly what I've had to be. I've spent much of my career doing my best to create spaces that affirm student identity, elevate student voice, and help them learn how to think, and not what to think. My experiences have taken me from the classroom, to research and teacher preparation, to K12 school administration. No matter the position, I'm always doing my best to turn mirrors into windows. When I'm not researching or generally pondering about education reform, I can be found reading to my daughter, and playing with my two dogs, Grace and Zoe. I also enjoy writing, baking, and eating everything I bake. Most recently, I've journeyed into the world of school leadership. What's next for me? Who knows! But what I do know is this:"Leaders are fascinated by the future. You are a leader if and only if, you are restless for change, impatient for progress, and deeply dissatisfied with the status quo. Because in your head, you can see a better future. The friction between 'what is' and 'what could be' burns you up, stirs you up, propels you. This is leadership"(Marcus Buckingham).Follow me on Twitter @stacygyoung to be witness to my musings!
