Says Stan:"When I was a kid, my dad made the entire family go to the movies to see the 1970's James Bond film "Moonraker." We went to our local theater, and once the movie began, I quickly realized that I couldn’t understand the dialogue well or follow the story. But there was this music: soaring horns and warm strings and striking percussion and all of these other sounds I hadn’t heard before. And I was hooked: I truly loved this music. In the years that followed, I poured myself into musical study and performance, having played in orchestras and bands throughout my years in school. Between films, books, and stories my mother told me, I developed an equally profound affection for stories and storytelling. However, due to fear and the disapproval of a community around me that struggled to envision a Black youth pursuing a career as a composer, I ran from music and pursued a "more noble" career as a lawyer. Years later, I came back to my first love: music. And it is my pleasure, passion, and mission to use music to tell stories. I see myself as a storyteller, and music is my medium."
