About Stanley McCoy

I have 36 years of experience in Southeast Alaska as a professional forester in timber resource management with the U. S. Forest Service. I worked on the Tongass National Forest in silviculture/timber stand improvement, timber resource inventory, presale timber and sale administration, timber sale planning, fire management, and contracting for NEPA timber management planning and timber sale implementation. I am a certified timber cruiser and have cruised approximately 7.5 billion board feet of timber in Southeast Alaska. I have reconned, planned and prepared, analyzed and appraised over 300 thousand acres of timber sales in Southeast Alaska since 1990. I started my career as a forestry technician from 1984-1987 cruising timber and laying out harvest units in Southeast Alaska while living in remote field camps. I was promoted to journey level presale forester from working on the Ketchikan Pulp Company 50 year Long Term Sale Contract. I was a contracting specialist in timber sale planning from inspecting and guiding work of contracted consulting firms preparing Environmental Impact Statements for NEPA documents. I was promoted to district timber management supervisor from 2003-2014 in Ketchikan, Alaska and Thorne Bay, Alaska on Prince of Wales Island. I directed the implementation of several large timber sales on the Ketchikan Misty Fiords District to provide a stable timber supply Pacific Log and Lumber LTD. I was instrumental on Prince of Wales directing the recon, layout and appraisal of the Big Thorne Timber Sale to provide a stable timber supply of 140 million board feet for Viking Forest Products in Klawock, Alaska and smaller mills near Thorne Bay, Alaska. I am the Tongass National Forest Logging Systems Forester/Engineer since October 2014 through 2022 preparing logging system transportation analyses for old growth and second growth harvest units on the Tongass National Forest, training new foresters in road location and logging systems design and implementation, analyzing cable skyline payloads using SkylineXL, and collecting and updating road construction costs for equipment and labor to appraise temporary road construction costs for timber sale appraisals.
